Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway will have as much as £ 40 million to spend in the summer if the club are promoted to the Premier league. The club managed to make it into the play-offs final after beating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 on aggregate. Winger Wilfried Zaha has been one of the major players for the club this season and he once again helped them to get past Brighton in the play-off semi-final. However, he will be transferring to Manchester United in the summer, thus weakening the squad considerably.
Crystal Palace will be getting as much as £ 15 million from Manchester United, and they are set to reinvest the amount back into the club. Aside from this, the club are also prepared to offer their manager another £ 25 million to spend on new players. The policy to spend big in the hope of survival has been successfully done by a few clubs in the past. Glen Murray, who has scored 30 goals for the club this season, has been ruled out for at least six months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury. Palace will be taking on Watford in the final of the play-offs.
The chairman of the club has confirmed that Holloway will have about £ 40 million to spend the summer.
“What would promotion mean? In the current stadium over just the one season you are probably looking at probably a £70-80m boost in revenue, which is massive. I’m absolutely convinced we would be as ready as anybody. We’ve seen Norwich and Southampton go up and keep the nucleus of their squads, then add to it, and do very well. And we’ve got a manager who’s been there,” said Ian Holloway. The manager also praised the performance of Zaha, who has been a standout player in the Championship.
