Sheffield Wednesday have secured the signing of Crystal Palace defender Anthony Gardner on a free transfer. The 31-year-old defender will be able to join the newly promoted Championship team on a free transfer due to the fact that his contract with Crystal Palace came to an end last season. He will be able to sign the contract with Sheffield Wednesday on July 1. Anthony Gardner has been one of the regular first-team players for Crystal Palace last season after completing his move from Hull City. He made a total of 33 appearances for the club last season.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones has said that he is extremely happy that the club have secured the signing of one of the experienced players in the division. He is hoping that Anthony Gardner’s experience of playing in the Championship will come in handy as Sheffield Wednesday look to remain in the Championship next season. Anthony Garner was one of the impressive players for Crystal Palace last season, as he helped the club reach the semifinals of the Carling cup. They played against Manchester United in the Carling cup semi-final and Anthony Gardner was one of the impressive players in the match.
“He comes with vast experience and he’s played at the highest level as well as the Championship. He’s big and he’s strong and he’s good on the ball,” said Dave Jones after announcing the signing of the player on the official website of the club. “I’ve been away for a couple of weeks so the deal got held up a little bit. Football wise I knew this was the right move for me but I needed to make sure it was the right move for my family too. I spoke to Dave Jones and he was a big factor in me coming here. He explained the ambition that they have and I really wanted to sign,” said Anthony Gardner.
